Tirrawarra Moomba Carbon Capture & EOR - Concept

Tirrawarra & Moomba- Carbon Capture and Sequestration – Early Concept (2018)

Client:

Santos

Location:

Cooper Basin, Southern Australia

Project Summary:

Equinox completed the Concept Study of the Carbon Capture Utilisation & Storage (CCUS) project. The project included concept development options evaluation for facilities and infrastructure associated with CO2 capture, compression, separation and delivery to the injection well.

The study evaluated the CO2 capture from both Moomba Gas Plant and/or Cooper Basin satellite facilities (Tirrawarra and Gidgealpa) for injection into oil reservoirs (Fly Lake, Tirrawarra, Gidgealpa, Strzlecki) for enhanced oil recovery. The study provided several cases for each location and scenario.

The Concept Study included technology review for CO2 recovery, acid gas compression and acid gas dehydration. The study also included transportation review for each scenario, consideration for expansion and full-scale development, and infield recycle for the pilot EOR program.

Preliminary process design was completed for all cases with budgetary major equipment costs and Class 5 TIC estimate completed, as well as operating costs for each case. Twenty-one (21) technology cases for Gidgealpa and Moomba facilities, fifteen (15) infield recycle cases for Gidgealpa and Stryzlecki, and seven pipeline transportation cases were evaluated and quantified.
