Above Ground Flowlines
Equinox personnel have extensive knowledge and experience in heavy oil pipeline system design, material selection and construction. Pipeline experience includes design and construction of various pipelines including oil emulsion, fuel gas, water, steam, diluent (condensate or synthetic crude), and/or sales line (synbit or dilbit).
Equinox provides consultation services from front end engineering design, site and route selection, detailed engineering, procurement and construction management for pipeline projects.

This project scope included the grassroots design and construction support for four above ground pipelines in a shared pipe rack, each 4.5 km long. The project included the detailed design for NPS 16 high temperature and pressure steam line with NPS 8 laterals, NPS 12 emulsion line, NPS 8 production gas line, and NPS 3 fuel gas line near the Hangingstone SAGD plant. The scope also included design and drawings for road construction. The pipelines are regulated by the ERCB.
This project also includes the design and construction of the fuel gas supply pipeline and the source water pipeline and associated wellsites for the Hangingstone SAGD central processing facility.
The scope of the Kirby pipeline project includes the design and construction of trunk pipelines and lateral pipelines to tie in the seven (7) new SAGD pads (Pad A, B, C, D, E, F and G in map shown) to the existing infrastructure in the area. The trunk pipelines system includes 24” steam (high pressure and high temperature) injection pipeline, 20” emulsion (high temperature) gathering pipeline, 12” annulus gas pipeline, and 4” fuel gas pipeline.
The lateral pipelines sizes are 16” steam (high pressure and high temperature) injection pipeline and 10” emulsion (high temperature) gathering pipeline.
The project included earthworks design, as well as design of numerous road, pipeline, power and animal crossings
Primrose South Flowlines
Equinox provided the complete Engineering, Earthworks Design, Procurement, Regulatory, Construction Support and Commissioning services for the project.
The project scope included detail design of 6.5 km of ERCB regulated pipelines. This included 24” ABSA registered high pressure steam pipelines as well as 24” sour emulsion and 3” fuel gas supply pipelines on a common pipe rack. The detailed design of this project included all required earthwork construction drawings.
Routing the pipeline included design challenges associated with crossing the Ken Baker highway. In order to keep ideal elevations for the 3 new lines, modifications to an existing 8” buried fuel gas line, as well as earth works were implemented.
Primrose Pad 14 to 51 Flowlines
Equinox continues to provided the complete Engineering, Eqrthworks Design, Procurement, Regulatory, Construction Support and Commissioning Support services for the project.
This was a retrofit project and included design challenges related to manoeuvring new pipelines within the same space constrains of existing infrastructure.
Although the pipeline’s routing was dictated by two existing pipelines, creative problem solving for road crossings and tie-ins was necessary to see the project through to completion.
The project scope included the detailed design for 2 km of above ground, NPS 24” high temperature and pressure steam lines, following an existing line on existing right of way. The steam line addition added flexibility to the existing steam infrastructure between CSS pads. The pipeline is regulated by the ERCB.
Primrose East Pipelines
Equinox provided complete Engineering, Procurement, Regulatory, Construction Support and Commissioning Support for the project to develop 8 km of above ground steam pipelines within the area of Primrose, in Northeast Alberta, Canada. The pipeline includes 24” steam, 24” emulsion, 3” fuel gas, 8” casing vent gas.
With the installation of four parallel pipelines, design challenges included space constraints posed at road crossings, valve stations, as well as well tie-in areas. Pipeline routing faces heavy challenges in the more remote regions of Northern Alberta, Canada, including muskeg and cold weather environments.
